Really Handsome Men Give-Away

Just a few random thoughts:

No wonder the Julia Roberts/Clive Owen movie "Duplicity" was not box office gold.

I could see the ending coming within the first 30 minutes of the movie. (We rented the dvd)
  • I have a sixth sense for movie endings though, I can usually guess the ending, blab it to my husband, disgust him with my movie prowess and, ruin a date that way, so we don't go as often as we used too.
  • By the way, I have been a Clive Owen fan since his bleached blond hair in "The Croupier". Now that was a good movie. He is so easy on the eyes.
  • The movies have just become too predictable. I mean, they are remaking old movies!! I usually hate that. I mean what if some loser director decides to remake "Gone With the Wind" or "Sound of Music"?
Some remakes that I HAVE liked were "Ocean's 11", and "The Thomas Crown Affair". Gulp~ for obvious reasons.
Pictured here are Rene Russo, and Pierce Brosnan.
I will give a 1 year subscription to Entertainment Weekly Magazine to the person with the correct answer, (picked by random number generator). Who are these actors? read the rules: they were in the original "Thomas Crown Affair"
  • Her cheek bones should be a dead give away (hint in that sentence)!!! And he is one of the best looking actors ever and he died at the age of 40.
  • you are on the honor system, you may not cheat by looking it up either online or by any other means. Okay, you can cheat. Just name one other popular movie by this actor.
  • By the way, this original movie has a really well known soundtrack. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_rTq6lDtCsU
My other random thought is this:

Why do most men get better looking as they age????!!!!! unless they are abusers like Mel Gibson, or Nick Nolte, they only get more good looking. Why do you think I watch Craig Ferguson every, each night (as Tiny says)? He is ssooooo handsome!

My Glad man has gotten better looking with age too!

Crap-Storm Update and Movies

Tiny ate some cheese pizza today. Her tummy is slowly coming back to life. She is at the 5 month old kitten stage instead of newborn kitten. Thankfully this set back came during the summer and not during the school year.

The U of U pervert was not caught. I doubt he will be. Malaina is doing better. She continues to turn bats into mice, or mice into bats, I forget which. You can follow her blog here

Jordan has moved to Pleasant Grove. This is the 4th move this year. We are sure this will be the last time for at least a month or two.

Dave continues to go fishing to forget the messes we girls have made of his summer. And I will get my walking cast on Monday. Yea!!!

Here are a few of my favorite movies, remember, in no particular order:

EverAfter....ahhh if there is a better Cinderella story, I don't know of it.
The delish Scot actor, Dugray Scott, still makes me gulp when I see him! You will delight in the cumuppance the wicked stepmother and sister get in the end!!!

Dave and I watch this over and over!!! We found it is better to watch with subtitles. You MUST be an avid Science Fiction fan to sit through this movie.
Paul Attradies of House Attradies takes control over planet Arrakis a desert planet devoid of any water at all..."Dune". Arrakis is the only place in the known universe where the "spice" is mined. The" spice" is used to fold space. He who controls Arrakis controls....well...everything. And Paul becomes the Kwisatz Hadarach... You just gotta watch it/read it "Dune" by Frank Herbert

This is the movie that made me a true Kevin Bacon fan. Val and Earl are two Handymen who leave Perfection, Nevada "just one damn day too late". As they leave town they run into several suspicious deaths. What IS under the ground anyway? This is a hillarious comedy/monster movie that will have you giggling in no time flat!

"What's Up Doc?" by the great Peter Bogdanovich. Barbara Striesand is amazing as Judy, the college student who attracts trouble like an Emo cutter at Provo High. Ryan O'Neal is wonderful as the dorky grant seeking professor, Howard Bannister, that Judy takes a shine too. This is the story of 4 suitcases and the people who want them, and the "screwball comedy" situations they all make for themselves. It is my favorite comedy of all time. Madeline Khan and other supporting actors steal the show. Cole Porter's "You're the Top's" is sung to
perfection, by Ms. Striesand too.

Here is my "left-wing" showing. I love these three transvestites. Patrick Swayze, Westly Snipes and John Leguzamo are so funny in this comedy that shows how these girls turn a redneck town into a coming of age happenin' place.
"To Wong Foo, Thanks For Everything, Julie Newmarr", has the longest name for a movie I have ever seen, but you will enjoy the adventures anyhow.

Here's to a Great Saturday!

A person would have to have been living....in a cave (pun intended) not to have heard about Gollum and his "precious" ring.
Well kids, I too, have a "precious" . My precious camera has been returned to me whole and in perfect form. For some unknown reason, there were two screws loose...(hmmm, does that bring to mind any person you know?) inside the camera. While "precious" was being fixed, I crocheted a cover for my neck strap. It used to drive me insane because is was so rough and prickly. Now it is soft and cushioney.

Dave and Tiny were gone camping, and Jordan was in Idaho with a friend
so Malaina and I snuck off to see "Angels and Demons", with Tom Hanks.
We enjoyed it. It had been years since I read the book, so I couldn't remember who or what was happening.

Then we went for Indian food. Oh, it was fabulously good! But 'spensive!

My new favorite restaurant. Fabulous food, excellent service and ever so clean!!!

Star Trek and More Movie Favs

Thanks to screen.ology.com for letting me use this awesome photograph.

So who didn't see Star Trek this weekend? I saw it and I loved it. The casting was really brilliant. Especially because of the chemistry the actors had with each other. To me the best casting was of Karl Urban as Dr. Leonard "Bones" McCoy. The Kiwi did the role to perfection.

I think it was smart of director/producer, J.J. Abrams (Whom I feel I know via my connections to the t.v. show "Lost") to use the Star Trek noises, whistles, and hydraulic sounds. It was so fun to watch. I am not a movie critic and I don't want to go any further on the topic, just go see it.

So since I am still minus my camera this week, let's go through some of my favorite movies, in no particular order (you can link to my other post on my favorite movies here:) Remember, these are not the best movies ever, just some of my favorites....

Let's just get it right out in the open. I love Mobster movies. LOVE,LOVE,LOVE them. If you get the chance to see this movie on A&E the edited version; DO see it. This is based on a true story about a "goodfella" for a mob family. Brilliant acting, directing and music.

This is one of the best movies I have ever seen. I re-watch it from year to year and it never fails to entertain. Al Pacino gets his start here and Marlon Brando takes his swan song.

Oh, and this is one of the best movies ever.

The brilliant sequel to the original. Michael Corleone takes over after his father Vito dies. And he does NOT disappoint. Much of our "pop" culture comes from these two movies. I think the name "Fredo" went out of popularity amongst Italians after this movie, and for good reason.

I cannot say enough great things about this movie. Me and the girls have seen it countless times. I have been a fan of the Westminster Kennel Club for decades now, and this movie makes fun of the dog community. It is done by Jamie Lee Curtis' husband Christopher Guest who is masterful at writing and directing script-less movies. The actors are given a general idea of where to go with the story, but are ad-libbing as they go. Jennifer Coolidge was so hilarious as the ignored rich wife Sherri Ann Cabot. I still cannot say "snow peas" without thinking of her.

Okay, so if you want to see a really "educational" movie about the "Watergate" business I hope you see this movie. You will get a kick out to these two dimwitted 15 year old girls who as the famed "Deepthroat" bring down the Nixon administration by accident. You will also love the darling 70's era costumes and music.

I recently posted about this movie when the beautiful Natasha Richardson died. It is my official favorite movie of 1998. I remember seeing the Hamilton family at this movie in Orem when we first saw it. While I loved the original, this movie was just so much more fun for me. And the wonderful Dennis Quaid was in this too. (I can't wait for GI Joe this summer..giggle)

Good family fun.

A man is unjustly accused of murder and put in prison for life. Watch his ability to remain human after all the misery he endures; and the influence he has on others as he gains the trust of the ever nasty warden.
This movie has the best ending ever!!!! That said, it is tough to watch in some places. I always watch it when it comes on television. Morgan Freeman and Timothy Robbins are perfection in Shawshank Redemption.

A true master of the ensemble cast genre' was lost when director Robert Altman died. This is my favorite movie of his. Set in 1932 at a English country house, it is a classic who-done-it! Was it the secretive butler or the spinster aunt who is in danger of losing her allowance? You will love seeing several famous faces in this cast including the gorgeous Clive Owen as a manservant to one of the guests.

One of Gweneth Paltrow's most darling movies ever. Jane Austin must have been a delightful person to have conceived of this character. Emma is a horrid matchmaker, and she never gives up her scheming. But she succeeds in finding love for herself in the end with the dashing Mr. Knightly! Oh, this is a wonderful girls night out movie. My daughters and I adore it.

Two assassins meet and fall in love unaware that they are working for opposing teams. Their marriage turns stale, until they are contracted to kill one another. Then the heat returns to the marriage bed in aces! Buckle up your seat belt and enjoy the fun ride.

and...um yes, the chemistry between the actors was um... well,,, you know the story.

Springtime and the Movies

Spring has finally officially arrived! I feel like I should dance naked around a fire or something to welcome her arrival.
The first thing I want to do is finally get my peas in the ground. But I can't do that until I till the soil, get the compost and replant the perennials I have been wintering in my garden patch.

I have really been kind of lazy this winter. I am like a bear coming out of hibernation. I eat everything in sight and am really grumpy. Especially if a certain coach is mean to my cub.

Since I last posted about the death of Natasha Richardson and the fact that she was in one of my favorite movies, I decided to post every now and again about some more of my favorite movies and why. Let me just start by saying that I was raised in a very active Movie going family. My earliest memories are at the movies, or Drive In. I learned early on that I hated any type of animal movie and that my mother loved musicals and my dad hated them. We all have favorite genre's and in no particular order here are some of my all time favorites. More will follow in future posts.
  • Legally Blonde --Elle Wood's; Gemini-vegetarian, sorority president and law school graduate, who wouldn't root, for this gem of gal?!

  • Matrix- one word---Keanu

  • Austin Powers (all three)--Potty humor at its all time finest!

  • Notting Hill--Sigh, Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant at their all time finest! A delightful romance of famous girl falling for nerdy book worm guy.

  • Jaws- I was in 7th grade and this movie was insanely popular. It still is a major classic with brilliant music and acting.

  • Aliens-This movie is probably in my top ten. I think Sigourney Weaver had the female power role of all time. Wow! No matter how many times I have seen it, it never fails to thrill!

  • Hunt for Red October-- The casting of this movie is brilliant, While I don't read Tom Clancy any more, this was an excellent movie after the book.

  • Last of the Mohican's--My favorite movie about this lesser known time in American History. Picture romance, cut throat Red Coats, and frontier justice! (and looking at the insanely handsome Daniel Day Lewis does not hurt!)

  • Auntie Mame--this is the Rosalind Russell version based on a true story about a rich woman who raises her nephew to be anything but a snob. It is so funny and a joy to watch .

  • Elizabeth--I simply love the Elizabethan time period. And when a movie is done well like this one, I can watch it over and over.

Pain in the Eye

I woke up yesterday with that pain. That pain that said something was brewing in my eye. It was not swollen yet, but lucky for me I had to go get some blood work done at my doctor's office and I hit my doctor up for some free care. She gave me homeopathic pulsatilla that brought it to a head real quick, and an antibiotic that is taking care of the infection. Ugh? I have always been prone to sty's. Just like some people get cold sores or cankers, I get the sty. Now I have to throw my mascara away.

I can't wait to see this movie: I don't even like Chihuahuas. I think they have weird ears, protruding eyes, and they have nasty dispositions. But, the movie looks like a scream!

Malaina finally got the Beetle back. It was a hecka pain in the butt. Don't get in a car wreck, please! If you do get in a wreck..Art City Auto Body in Springville was awesome to work with.
They did most of the go between with both insurance companies. Did you know when you get in a 4 car pile up, the insurance companies pay for portions of each damaged car? What a mess. Also, it is a good idea to ask for medical follow-up. She is getting lots of good care at McLean Chiropractic too. Massages, accupunture, adjustments...lots of love.

I have decided to regain control of my life in many different ways. Things are going to change. I no longer need to do things. I choose to do them. Quality of services may be different from now on. You have been warned.

Emotional Wreck---Oh, and ATV Wreck!

Christina went ATV-ing today with friends. The driver was showing off, flipped them onto their backs with the ATV on top of them. Thank God she was wearing a backpack and a helmet. She had to use her legs to lift the ATV off the driver and pull most of his body out of the bog they were in, or he would have drowned. She ran for help and the rest as they say is history. Look at her poor back!!! She could have been seriously hurt. That poor boy could have drowned. I should have listened to my still small voice when it screamed at me to deny permission for her to go. I didn't want to seem like an over protective mother, so I gave the approval for her to go. Hellooo!!>>>>listen to the voice!!!

It is 2:3o am and I am so stressed out from this emotional roller coaster of a day I have had. You can look at my past blog and read the first two paragraphs to get the gist of the first 12 hours of my day.

At least my pretty big girls had a safe and uneventful night.
Ummm...do you like the jewelry?
They went to the R.S. General Mtg. I was too shell shocked to make it.
Then to try to get me to relax.. Dave took me to the movies. I should have picked a brainless blond bimbo movie (sorry blond people) to numb my emotions. Instead, we saw this Spike Lee, kick you in the gut, then kick your ass, and while you are down, kick you in the crotch, movie.
I found the racism harder to watch than the actual war scenes. I have to say the movie left me very emotionally hyped. It almost had a Shawshank Redemption ending though. (hope this is not a spoiler) I would have liked someone to tell me this before I had seen the film.

My nerves are shot. Sorry for the negativity. Sorry for the filthy language. Sorry you won't see me at church in the morning. I will be nursing a Valium. Or will it be nursing me?

And, sorry for the blantant drug abuse.

Do you ever have one of those days where you don't want to leave the house? You would be perfectly happy to sit on the couch and eat, read or doze the day away? I am sure most of have days like this. But tell me if I need to seek help; sometimes I dread having to leave the house. Like today, I know I have to go get Tiny from tennis and then head up to the mall to look for some outfits. I am not looking forward to it. Seriously though the highlighted phrase I just marked reminds me of one of my favorite movies.

This is one of those movies that is a "Mockumentary". It is about The American Teen Princess beauty pageant being held at the local small town level and the crazy women who are involved. This movie takes place in a small town in Minnesota, so all the actors have learned the local twang. All the contestants and pageant leaders are being filmed documentary style while someone is killing off the contestants one by one.

Kirstie Alley steals the show with her over the top performance as the director/mother to the one of the contestants. She does everything in her power to place the crown on her daughters head, even if it means trampling over anyone to do it.

This is one dvd that I have watch over and over and still giggle with glee at some of the humor that I didn't catch the first time. There are some funny cameo's in the movie too. One is by Adam West, television's first Batman, and he appears as himself as the loser he is in real life. He comes off as this really creepy dirty old man, but in a totally funny way. Will Sasso, from MadTV has a great part as the local town "retard", their word not mine. He is hilarious in this role.
Anyone who has spent time in a small Midwestern town will appreciate this movie, and anyone who wants a good time will like it too. The movie does have its share of foul language, No F words that I recall. No sex.

Rack 'em up Baby

No I am not talking about my rack. Or a pool table rack. This is one of the items I requested for my birthday and it is so HOT!
The guy aint' bad neither;) Although he does look a little bit like Jack Nicholson coming through that door in The Shining.
The rest of the story I leave to your own imagination!!!
